The Heart of Ohio Bike Trail

16 Miles Of Outdoor Exploration

Whether it's walking, biking, running, or inline skating, The Heart of Ohio Trail (HOOT) could be your new favorite pathway leading you to better health and more awareness of the gorgeous nature surrounding it. This trail is maintained by the Heart of Ohio group and includes several bridges including the newest being a 182 - foot overpass that was once a railroad bridge on Lytle Road in Centerburg, Ohio. The trail holds a calm soundtrack from Dry Creek Stream and tends to be the background music for visitors through many locations of the 16 mile trail.

Connecting Communities

Find the start point of the Heart of Ohio Trail in either Mount Vernon, Ohio at the C. A. & C. Depot located at 1 Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050 or in Centerburg, Ohio on Huffman Road, Centerburg, Ohio, 43011 with parking located at 2750 Huffman Road, Centerburg, Ohio, 43011. The majority of the trail is paved, making for a smooth treck on your adventure towards strength and fitness. New improvements have been made to the path including the paved section of the trail from Huffman Road and North Clayton Street that was completed back in October of 2016 and now there is a connection between the Heart of Ohio Trail and The Kokosing Gap Trail in Mount Vernon, Ohio after crossing Main Street! Below, we've shared with you a video displaying the new connection, captured by our custom drone footage, providing a very unique perspective.

Drone Flight Above The Memorial Ball Field of Howard Ohio

Batter Up!

Just a drive down the road from East Knox Schools, located on Pipesville Road is the Memorial Ball Field in Howard, Ohio. This ball field hosts ball games to girls ages 5-16 with all skill sets and began construction in 2014. Future plans for this amenity include an additional softball field, a pavilion with a concession stand, and a playground for kids to play and stay occupied while their older siblings take a swing at their skills on the dirt.

Elevated Views

We have shared custom drone footage below that captures the Memorial Ball Field in a unique perspective including a very cool lift off taken from the pitcher's mound as well as 360 degree views around the field that captures the surrounding landscaping.

The Mount Vernon Middle School and Mount Vernon High School desire to fulfil each individual students' life with education, success, and empowerment. The goal of Mount Vernon Middle School and High School is to assist students in excelling academically and preparing each pupil to be successful individuals who are ready for life-long learning.

A Place For Education and Growth

The Mount Vernon Middle School is a 950-student facility serving grades 6,7, and 8 and offers an extensive amount of unified arts including Band, Choir, Orchestra, Art, Music, Physical Education, Family and Consumer Science, Health, Spanish, and more. Students have the opportunity for sports such as Cross Country, Cheerleading, Football, Golf, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, and Track.

Guiding Students To Success

The Mount Vernon High School offers unified arts such as Art, Agri-Science, Industrial Technology, Choir, Piano Lab, Orchestra, and Band and various courses for Business, Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Latin, Spanish, and French. Students can participate in sports like Cross Country, Football, Cheerleading, Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, Tennis, Basketball, Wrestling, Swimming, Track, Softball, and Baseball. Summer school is offered to students to provide an opportunity to complete credits ahead of time or to improve one's grade.

In 2005, West Elementary School and Elmwood Elementary School combined to form Twin Oak Elementary towards the South end of Mount Vernon, Ohio. The mission of Twin Oak Elementary is to withhold high standards for the performance of teachers and students and prepare each individual for life-long learning and success. Twin Oak Elementary School is a 400-student facility, offering 50 staff members to best tend to each pupil. Serving grades K-5, this school provides classes such as art, music, physical education, and book clubs!

Bridge of Dreams in Danville Ohio

A Dream Constructed Into Reality

Spanning 370 feet across the Mohican River stands the Bridge of Dreams in Danville, Ohio, that allows for pedestrian crossing, bicyclists, and Amish buggies. Although motorized traffic is prohibited, many people come visit this beloved bridge every year to enjoy the magnificent views of the river from the 3rd longest covered bridge in the United States. In the 1920's the Bridge of Dreams was constructed as a railroad bridge, later in 1998, it was covered. The name was given due to the length and necessary funds to complete the project, therefore, showing that dreams really do come true! In the custom drone footage below, we've captured unique perspectives of the bridge and the Mohican River that residents have likely never seen before.
