by Sam Miller

UPDATE:  In a newspaper article it was announced on April 13th, 2020 that the Hiawatha Water Park will not be opening for the 2020 season due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The city of Mount Vernon, Ohio has mailed out their Hiawatha Water Park and Pool schedule to area residents and I wanted to provide a quick summary.  The mailer sent by the City of Mount Vernon has an opening date of June through August and I am sure they will firm up those dates as we get closer to summer and swimming season.  This proposed schedule is subject to change due to the CoronaVirus and business closures so be sure to check back regularly.

Feel free to call 740-393-0288 which is the pools seasonal number or you can call 740-393-9521 for waterpark and pool membership information.

The Hiawatha Waterpark and Pool is located at 100 Sychar Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 (on the corner of Beech Street).

The National WACO Biplane Annual Reunion

by Sam Miller

Ready, Set, Liftoff!

Each year, typically in the month of June, the National WACO club flies in to gather together at the Wyncoop Airport on Granville Road in Mount Vernon, Ohio. This gathering is comprised of those who are current owners of WACO planes, past owners, and admirers who have a passion for the Waco Aircraft Company and these dazzling aircrafts. Pilots and owners put in countless hours of restoration and maintenance to preserve the pristine condition of their biplanes. The national WACO club is considered the oldest aircraft club in the United States and was founded in 1958.

How Did This Become?

It all began with a group of gentlemen in the same place at the right time in Buffalo, NY where they discovered their passion and drive for constructing the ideal biplane became a unanimous ideal. In their 28 years of business in Troy, Ohio, the WACO Aircraft Company produced 62 different civillian biplanes that are still admired, owned, and cherished by people today

The 59th Reunion

Plans are set for the next National WACO club homecoming, scheduled for the dates of June 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of 2018 at the Wyncoop Airport located at 9051 Granville Road in Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050. Membership is open to anyone with a passion for the WACO aircraft, whether it be a previous / current owner of a WACO aircraft, employee, or someone who simply appreciates the beauty in their engineering. This is a relaxed get together of pilots flying their beloved aircrafts in and marvel at fellow club member's prized possessions.

Fireworks in Mount Vernon Ohio

by Sam Miller

The Mount Vernon, Ohio community celebrated Independence Day with a spectacular fireworks display last night.  The sky was a perfect black backdrop which created an amazing contrast for the fireworks to come alive in the sky.  This length and intensity of fireworks being launched must have been in excess of years past because I shot over 300 photos and am sure I didn't capture half of the celebration with my camera.  Last night was a "WOW" experience in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
