Kent's Ice Cream Station in Mount Vernon Ohio
As part of our daily series "365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio" I visited Kent's Ice Cream Station in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Today is April 15th and I had just wrote those dreaded checks to the IRS and I needed something to help cool me off and a visit to the Ice Cream Station was just what I needed. The Ice Cream Station has really good food, it's owned and operated by super fantastic people who treat your right and I love their ice cream. They are located at 115 Newark Road on the corner of Newark Road and Kirk Street.
When you visit the Ice Cream Station it's a little bit like stepping back in time. Inside it has a very clean and inviting 1950's feel. Decorated with black & white checkered flooring, old style vintage tables, chairs and booths, a juke box with old music and it's filled with lots of unique decorations on the walls and hanging from the ceiling. People of all ages will have something to talk about because some of the decorations displayed might just trigger a few of your cherished memories of your teenage years.
The menu at Kent's Ice Cream Station includes a nice mixture of sandwiches including hamburgers, shredded chicken, sloppy joe, brats, BBQ beef or BBQ pork and they also have hot dogs, coney island, chili dogs, kraut dog and even cheese dogs.
With 28 different flavors of hand dipped Velvet ice cream, soft serve ice cream plus they have recently added a yogurt option which makes Kent's an even more desirable location for cool deserts. Kent's also serves 19 specialty sundaes above and beyond the traditional sundaes, blizzards and banana splits. If you are looking for an over the top sized ice cream dessert you might want to check out "Kent's Kitchen Sink" or their "Five Foot Long Banana Split" (5 footer requires an advance order and it's ideal for a large group).
Today I tried out the "Turtle Sundae" and it was super and even bigger than I expected. Hot fudge. carmel, hand dipped ice cream, nuts, whipped cream and a cherry...eating this big sundae made my dreaded tax day quickly fade away.
Kent's Ice Cream Station is a great place to visit after a ball game, motorcycle ride and it is a great place if you are looking for a little down time. During the warmer months they have a handful of car shows usually on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00. If you love classic cars, muscle cars, street rods and Corvettes be sure to stop by on May 22, June 26th, July 31, Aug 28 and September 11th for one of their scheduled shows. It is also not uncommon to see cool cars, antique trucks and motorcycles in their parking lot during evening hours throughout the week and weekends.
I would like to thank Devin and Connie Cline for allowing use of their photo above which features their gorgeous 32 Ford in front of Kent's Ice Cream Station. You guys know I love really cool cars and your photo fits the vibe at Kent's Ice Cream Station perfectly.
