Knox County Ohio Courthouse Clock Tower Photo

The Knox County Ohio Courthouse Clock Tower is one of the many gorgeous attractions that is located in Mount Vernon, Ohio on historic East High Street.  If you ever have a free afternoon you might consider taking a walk from the Mount Vernon Public Square and head east on High Street through the historical district.  Be sure to bring your camera because you won't believe your eyes because this street is filled with amazing architecture including homes that were built in the late 1800's and early 1900's.  This photo was taken by Sam Miller of REMAX Stars Realty 740-397-7800.  Knox County Ohio Real Estate.

Wolf Run Dog Park in Mount Vernon Ohio - 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio

On the edge of Mount Vernon, Ohio on Yauger Road you will find the Wolf Run Dog Park.  This is a really nice fenced dog park and Wolf Run is a great place for your dog to run and play freely.  We have taken our dog Chase to Wolf Run and he loves the wide open space so that he can run and he especially likes the lower and outer edge of the fenced area because there are trees and a nice wooded area.  If you are unfamiliar with exactly where Wolf Run Dog Park is located less than a mile from the corner / intersection of Yauger Road and Upper Gilchrist Road which is right by the Mount Vernon Ohio UEC Movie Theatre on the east side of Mount Vernon.  This feature article is part of our ongoing series titled 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio by Sam Miller.

Honey Run Park and Waterfall - 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio

knoxcountyohio.com/Blog/Honey-Run-Park-and-Waterfall-365-Things-To-Do-in-Knox-County-OhioBring your camera because you are in for a real photo opprtunity when you visit the Honey Run Park in Howard, Ohio.  One of the major highlights of this country park is the gorgeous 25 foot tall waterfall that cascades over beautiful stones.  You can hike from the Honey Run waterfall all the way to the Kokosing River experiencing gorgeous wooded areas, sandstone cliffs and large boulders.  If you would like to visit the Honey Run Park the street address is 10855 Hazel Dell Road, Howard, Ohio.  From the intersection of Route 62 and Coshocton Road / US 36, Honey Run Park is 2.37 miles (just a couple of minutes).  

According to the Knox County Parks District, "the Honey Run Waterfall site contains a rare plant community (disjunct, boreal habitat) and unique views of the Blackhand sandstone, formed some 350 million years ago.  Towering hemlocks, partridge berry, witch hazel and rue anemone grace this natural area".

Fredericktown Ohio Tomato Show

Fredericktown Ohio Tomato Show

The Tomato Show in Fredericktown, Ohio has a little something for everyone.  The Tomato Show is a small town street fair with a community parade, fair type amusement rides, food vendors, entertainment, a 5K run and some exciting competitions featuring local residents.  Some of my favorite featured activities are the bathtub races, the tomato toss, the lip sync contest, baby crawl races and the pedal tractor races.  There are arts and crafts and it is a great place to meet up with friends in a relaxed and casual atmostphere.  The Tomato Show is always held the first Wednesday - Saturday after Labor Day.  

Below we have featured a one minute video highlight of the Saturday Fredericktown Tomato Show Parade.

We also created a video highlight of the Tomato Show activities including the bathtub races, tomato toss, fair rides and some other fun activities.

Ziplining through the trees is exciting!!!  Tree Frog Canopy Tours on 21899 Wally Road in Glenmont, Ohio is a fantastic place to experience ziplining and it's just 20 to 25 minutes North of Mount Vernon, Ohio.  Tree Frog's Canopy Tours has over 4,000 feet of combined zipline length that takes you on an adventure through the tree tops by means of zip lines, sky bridges and rappels connected to platforms suspended in the tree tops.  If you love the outdoors and are looking for a little excitement this place should at the top of your list especially if you enjoy extreme thrills because some of these ziplines are FAST.

Mohican Bluegrass Festival in Knox County Ohio

The Mohican Bluegrass Festival is a very popular entertainment attraction in Knox County Ohio.  The annual the Mohican Wilderness Campground on 22462 Wally Road in Glenmont, Ohio 44628.  This year the event took place on September 15th - 17th and attracted many from outside of our community.  The Bluegrass event helps to promote high school bluegrass bands and the festival is well attended.  It is a family type festival.  There are food vendors, camping, a huge log stage, gorgeous river-front campsits and lots of fun and recreation.

Knox County Fair Lawn Tractor and Bus Races - 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio

The Knox County Ohio Fair Week is an exciting time for those who live within or near our community because every day at the fair they feature something fun and entertaining rancing from truck pulls, tractor pulls, harness racing, tough trucks, a musical concern and many other exciting event.  Today we are featuring two unique types of racing that you may have never experienced before.  The first is lawn mower racing where racers use their modified garden tractors and these things fly.  The second type of racing is the School Bus Races.  When I first saw these full size school buses on the track I just shook my head because it became immediately obvious that these buses are going to banging into each other and they sure do and the spetactors go wild.  If you have never seen a school bus flip over onto it's side be sure to watch the entire video because the figure 8 race towards the end of the video is flat out crazy.

Fredericktown Mill Street Park - 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio

Mill Street Park in Fredericktown, Ohio

As part of our ongoing series titled "365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio" we are featuring Fredericktown Mill Street Park.  This park is part of the Fredericktown Recreation District Education and Nature Center which is located at 12 Mill Street.  This is my personal favorite outdoor park in the Fredericktown, Ohio area because it has such a wonderful peaceful and country feel.  It is almost impossible to visit the Mill Street Park without seeing wildlife and it is filled with natural beauty.  The Center has approximately 2 miles of walking trails that take you on a journey through 57 acres of woods.  Bird watchers, walking, hiking, enjoying the beautiful natural landscape or you can just sit back and relax at the Fredericktown Mill Street Park.

2011 Mount Vernon Ohio Fireworks Video

The Mount Vernon Ohio 4th of July Fireworks Celebration tonight was a seriously impressive event.  The fireworks display featured more than 20 minutes of non stop explosions with colorful light up the sky style excitement.  In my opinion the fireworks this year actually exceeded last years event and last year was pretty awesome especially for a small community.  I created a 10 minute video highlight reel of tonights fireworks and I hope you enjoy watching it.

Waco Airplane Reunion - 365 Things To Do in Knox County Ohio

Mount Vernon Ohio was the location once again for the Waco Biplane Reunion.  The event takes place on Granville Road just on the outer edge of Mount Vernon at the Wyncoop property near Blackjack Road.  For years the Waco planes have visited Knox County Ohio and it is a wonderful event to experience for people of all ages.  This event has a relaxed air show feeling except that it really isn't an official air show from what I have read and have been told.  It is a very relaxed gathering with no set schedules and people are continually flying in and out pretty much whenever they want.   I live just a couple of minutes from where the event is held and it is awesome to see these amazing planes flying over.  What is more amazing is to watch the expression on the faces of small children as they see and hear these airplanes.

Saturday evening I stopped into the Ice Cream Station for a quick bite to eat and I had an opportunity to talk with a group who flew in for the event.  It was an awesome experience to listen to them share stories and I could actually feel their passion and their love for their airplanes and the friendships they had created because of their beloved planes.  What was even more obvious is that this gathering / event was as much about connecting and reconnecting with with other like minded people as it was as much about their airplanes.  If everyone in America was as passionate about life as this group was the world would be an even better place.  If you haven't experienced a Waco fly in Mount Vernon I hope you will take a minute and watch the short video I have included below.  I hope you enjoy it!
